Merchandising Tip: When to Stock the Store?

When customers are in your store, you want them focused on shopping. You want the merchandising you’ve done to speak loud and clear—and earn the sales.

That’s why we recommend avoiding stocking during store hours whenever possible. Stocking usually requires utility carts and unpacking cardboard boxes, which can be unsightly. Mainly though, it is distracting for the shopper.

Sometimes stocking during store hours can’t be helped if there is a particularly popular set of items. Just be sure to prep items for the shelves behind closed doors and use a shopping basket or shopping cart to move merchandise to the sales floor.

Enjoy the black Friday sales!

Merchandising Tip: Know Your Windows

Window displays are a great opportunity to show off what you have in stock and draw customers into the store. But how well do you know your windows?

The following are a few tips to better understand the windows:
  • Check out your window at different times of day and at seasons of the year: in the morning, mid afternoon and evening. How does the light shine in? Does your store look open? Is there a strong glare you need to overcome?
  • Walk by. Bike by. Drive by. You’ll see the windows from different speeds and understand how you can capture the attention of customershowever they travel.
  • Get feedback. Talk to trusted customers or friends about what their candid impressions are. Do they understand the message you are trying to convey with the window display?
The more you understand your windows, the better you can make your displays perform!
